Mayfield Nursery is a family-owned business since 2013. Established in 1993, we’ve been at our current site on the grounds of Springfield University Hospital since 2007, bordering Tooting and Earlsfield.

As parents of four lovely grown-up daughters, we are committed to providing children with a warm, nurturing, and safe environment, exactly what we wanted from our daughter’s nursery school.

Our purpose-built nursery has bright, spacious rooms, an ideal environment for babies and children to explore and develop curiosity and independence. Our high ceilings ensure your child’s happiness knows no bounds, come and have a look for yourselves!

The nursery provides childcare for NHS Trust staff as well as parents in the local community, and we are proud to serve such a diverse and thriving community. Mayfield has an excellent track record in safety with the highest standards in hygiene. From our family to yours, we are focused on providing an outstanding level of care and education.

Our Story

Jyoti, the Nursery Manager and owner of Mayfield Nursery, started her career in childcare in 2007. While bringing up four children of her own, Jyoti pursued her passion and completed her childcare qualifications, and in 2011 began working in Mayfield Children’s Centre as a Room Leader. Jyoti loved everything about the nursery, from her colleagues, the children to the local community.

In 2013, the management running Mayfield Children’s Centre informed the nursery practitioners and the parents of the heart breaking news that Mayfield had to close its doors due to insolvency. The parents banded together and formed a committee. Together the committee raised enough funds to maintain the nursery for a week.

During this week, Jyoti and her husband, Raj, decided to save Mayfield Children’s Centre. It was Jyoti’s dream to one day have her very own nursery and this way she would be saving the jobs of her friends and could continue working with the families that she had built strong relationships with.

Jyoti’s husband Raj had a career in HR, he was the Global Payroll and HR Analyst at Philips Electronics. Jyoti, Raj and their daughter put in a bid to save Mayfield from liquidation, the case was assessed and the liquidators found that with Jyoti’s extensive childcare knowledge and Raj’s expertise in Payroll and business development, the two were equipped to take on their new business venture. Mayfield Nursery was born.

Insert taken from the Guardian article:

‘The nursery, which is run as a charitable trust, was able to stay open for a week longer after parents found £5,000.

Parents spent a week trying to find a way to keep the nursery operating, before Raj Vaidya, husband of one of the nursery staff, stepping forward to rescue the nursery last Friday evening.

He said: “My wife has worked at Mayfield for the last two years and childcare is her absolute passion.

“We felt that we had to do whatever possible to save it from closure, both for the sake of the children but also to safeguard the jobs of the nursery staff.”’

Mayfield Nursery has come a long way since 2013, with the help of Jyoti and Raj’s daughters Shreena and Fiona.

Shreena has implemented a new nursery management system, facilitating two way communication between parents and practitioners, as well as making invoicing parents seamless and as clear as possible.

Fiona has worked hard to create a supportive atmosphere for children, parents and staff alike. She has focused on inclusion as well as promoting the wellbeing of our talented team of practitioners, which in turn has cultivated a more mindful approach to caring for the children.
