Pre-school

In Pre-school we welcome children aged 3 to 5.

Our preschool room is colourful and exciting! It has the advantage of having a separate messy room for water and sand play and quiet room where jolly phonics, story time and foreign language learning take place in calm and quiet environment.

The preschool curriculum covers all seven areas of development and builds on the learning that has taken place in the middle room. The play-based learning experiences in the preschool provide a curriculum that gives children the skills they will need to succeed in school and in future life. Our preschool children enjoy a variety of activities such as: Art classes, yoga and sports, story time, cooking, dancing and junk modelling.
Moreover, the resources available are diverse and include card games, counting and alphabet games, lotto games, magnets, dolls and accessories, musical instruments, money trays, weighing scales, dressing up as well as a large stock of toys and games, books, cars and roadways, trains and tracks, play people, farm and zoo animals, dinosaurs, various construction blocks, jigsaws and many more. Preschool children make use of our wonderful resources in a unique way and their creativity is valued and highly praised.
All the rich and challenging play activities and experiences that happen in preschool aim to ignite children’s curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. The focus is on enabling children to learn at their own pace, to have a breadth of learning experiences and gain a positive image of themselves as capable learners and to learn through trial and error. Through their playing, singing and adult led learning, pre-schoolers gain skills that ultimately help them learn to write, build their math and science skills, and become successful students.
To support children's personal, social, and emotional development children in preschool learn about 'Virtue of the week'. Children explore virtues such as: gratitude, kindness, cooperation, caring, forgiveness, courage, respect, patience, friendship, responsibility, hard work, confidence, and independence. To teach and explain virtues to the children, adults read books, provide plenty of examples and scenarios, and discuss the virtue together with children. Then, children’s opinions and ideas are put on the board to share with the parents.

Children in preschool do 'Show and Tell' where they talk about an object beginning with the letter of the week in front of their peers. ‘Show and Tell’ is a great way to build children's confidence and communication and language skills.

There is also a great emphasis on literacy in preschool. Children follow the jolly phonics method, which is a multi-sensory method that involves teaching literacy through synthetics phonics and actions. Preschoolers also practice pencil control and letter formation, beginning with the letters of their name and then progressing to other letters of the alphabet.

We use fun games to introduce sounds, letters, and numbers and then work alongside every child in reaching their next developmental milestone. Our provision is personal, and every child is encouraged and praised for their specific contribution. Every week we award ‘Star of the week’ Certificate for achieving a milestone e.g., using toilet for the first time, writing name or letter, or doing their first Show and Tell.

Preschool children are given a high level of independence during mealtimes. They are encouraged to self-serve under supervision, pour their own drinks and clear up after themselves. We also choose a child to be our ‘Helper of the day’ to hand out plates and cutlery to their peers. This teaches children responsibility of carrying small tasks and patience and gratitude.
